Black Skin 03:26
Black Skin My brother paid a price of blood For the color of his skin He swung like rotting fruit From an old willow tree And they say he was not from this land But he built this country’s walls He dreamt its roads to life He gave its cities light So I came to east Ohio Where a preacher heard his fate And he promised revenge on angel’s wings When God returns in spring And I wait for it to come Wait for my revenge to come And I wait for it to come Wait for my revenge to come Some say my skin is a dark one But there’s will turn on them And as they curse my name and heart I will wave them to their rusty train I will wave them to a rusty train
2.
Mississippi 01:20
Mississippi I put my brother’s body in the trunk And pushed it into the warm Mississippi He could have told of the things I’ve done, the men I’ve wronged So I sent him down to his last duty A soldier son, a momma’s pride She got older, could not recall his name I am sorry our faces are familiar But I am not that son, I am his brother I am sorry our faces look familiar But I am not that son, I am his brother
